AUGUST
In Albuquerque, the August sun is inescapable. While the long days help my mental health and my productivity, they are as exhausting as they are energizing. I love the sun—and I need relief from its intensity. This push/pull dynamic mirrors many of the relationships women have. Love for a partner, a child, or one's art can be all-consuming—fueling us and depleting us at the same time. Like the goddess Kali, it both creates and destroys.
August cannot hide her heart. It burns with an overwhelming fire. Connected to her womb, this love births the life-sustaining energy that is August's glorious power.
And, like the sun, this incredible power will eventually burn itself out and die.
“Agape is the love that consumes.”
— Paulo Coelho
