FEBRUARY
Even when I was most in love, Valentine’s Day was always kind of garbage for me. It comes on the same day every year, and yet my partners would inevitably act surprised, then defensive when it arrived. I was made to feel it was some sort of burdensome thing that I had invented.
What would happen if I put that love and energy into myself instead of chasing someone and hoping it is reciprocated?
February is a love-letter to myself. She sits in a loveseat, a chair for two, and with her arms out and her legs crossed, she does not need to make herself any smaller to accommodate someone else. Her hair is sequined, her lips heart-shaped. February is shiny and loud and takes up as much room as she wants to.
“How you love yourself is how you teach others to love you.”
